The pattern
One high and one low daily with around a foot and a half of range. The hypersaline lower Laguna Madre fishes its own rhythm — wind often moves more water than the tide — while the ship channel runs current.
Laguna Madre flats
The lagoon’s grass flats are Texas sight-fishing at its finest — redfish and speckled trout year-round. The jetties and the causeway give up snook and tarpon in the warm months.
Boating
The Brownsville Ship Channel carries big-ship traffic — mind the channel. The lagoon’s flats go skinny outside the marks. For the wider Gulf, see our Gulf Coast tide guide.
