The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with a range approaching twenty feet — Kachemak Bay’s tides are among Alaska’s biggest. The Spit’s harbor and the bay’s mudflats feel every foot of it.
Halibut capital
The charter fleet runs the bay and the outer coast for barn-door halibut, with kings, silvers, lingcod, and rockfish filling the box. The Spit’s beaches give up clams on the big minus tides.
Boating
Kachemak Bay’s big exchanges move serious water — and the weather builds fast off the Kenai Mountains. Check marine forecasts with the tide. For the state, see our Alaska tide guide.
