The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around twelve feet of range — big Kachemak Bay water. The tide floods the sloughs and harbor basin, and low water exposes the mudflats along the boardwalk.
Boardwalk town
Seldovia’s stilted boardwalk sits right over the water — halibut charters and water taxis leave the small-boat harbor on the tide. Across the bay, Homer’s Spit launches run the same swing; see our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
Crossing Kachemak Bay to Homer means exposed water — the tide’s currents stack with the afternoon breeze. Water taxis watch the tide closely; recreational boaters should too. For the region, see our Alaska tides guide.
