Tarpon Springs Tide Chart

Tarpon Springs — the Sponge Capital of the World with its Greek sponge docks on the Anclote River — works small Gulf tides of around two feet. Note the NOAA station sits on the Anclote River, so Gulf-side times run a little earlier.

The pattern

Small, often diurnal-leaning tides of around two feet — classic upper-Gulf water. Some days bring just one high and one low; the shallow river and nearshore flats feel the wind as much as the moon.

Sponges and Greektown

Greek divers from the Dodecanese built the sponge industry here in 1905, and Dodecanese Boulevard’s sponge docks still work the trade. The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral anchors Greektown; see our best time to fish tides guide for the river windows.

Boating

The Anclote River’s marked channel is the way out — the surrounding flats are skinny. Anclote Key’s preserve island sits just offshore, and the sponge-diving tour boats work the same water. For the region, see our Florida tides guide.
