St. Thomas Tide Chart
St. Thomas — Charlotte Amalie’s famous harbor in the U.S. Virgins — barely feels a tide, often under a foot — but the harbor’s tarpon, the north-side swells, and the sailing routes still read the water.

The pattern
A semidiurnal tide that rarely reaches a foot of range — among the smallest in U.S. waters. Trade-wind swell and tropical weather move far more water than the astronomical tide.
Harbor and sail
Tarpon roll in Charlotte Amalie’s harbor — a light-tackle thrill in a working port. Offshore, the north drop and the cays give up tuna, wahoo, and mahi; the island is a sailing capital, with the trade winds mattering more than the tide.
Boating
The harbor is busy — cruise ships, ferries to St. John, and sailboats share the water. The north shore’s exposure means watching swell over tide. For the region, see our Puerto Rico & Caribbean tide guide.
