The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around eight feet of range — strong southern-Oregon water. The tide surges against the port’s breakwater and the rocky shore, then drops the docks’ floats the full swing — lines need slack for an eight-foot change.
Crane fleet and Cape Blanco
Port Orford is one of the only West Coast ports without a harbor basin — boats are hoisted in and out on a crane, a sight in itself. Cape Blanco, the westernmost point in Oregon, stands just north with its lighthouse; see our best time to fish tides guide for the coast’s windows.
Boating
There is no protected moorage here — the port is a working hoist, not a marina, and the open roadstead is exposed to the Pacific swell. Humbug Mountain’s headland shelters the town beach in a north wind. For the region, see our Pacific Northwest tides guide.
