Crescent City Tide Chart

Crescent City — the redwood coast’s harbor town, rebuilt after the 1964 tsunami — answers to a six-to-seven-foot mixed semidiurnal tide that drives the salmon seasons and the rockfish reefs.

The pattern

Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with six to seven feet of range — bigger than the Central Coast, as the North Coast’s tides build. The harbor’s breakwaters tame the ocean, but the tide still moves serious water through the entrance.

Salmon and rockfish

This is salmon country when the seasons open — kings staging off the harbor mouth — plus year-round rockfish and lingcod on the reefs. Crabbers work the pots in season. Battery Point Lighthouse’s island is walkable at the lowest tides.

Boating

The harbor mouth deserves respect in big swell — check conditions before crossing. Inside, it’s a full-service fishing harbor and the jumping-off point for the wild North Coast. For the region, see our Central & Northern California tide guide.
