Astoria Tide Chart
Astoria stands where the Columbia River meets the Pacific — a big mixed semidiurnal tide near eight feet that drives one of the West Coast’s great salmon fisheries and guards one of its most dangerous bars.

The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around eight feet of range — and the river adds its own push: high spring flows can blunt the incoming tide far upstream. The tide’s reach extends well past Portland, so upriver anglers still live by the table.
Buoy 10 salmon
Late summer’s Buoy 10 fishery — where the river meets the ocean — is combat fishing for fall Chinook and coho at its finest, and the bite keys on the tide change. Sturgeon lurk the deep holes year-round. Time the tide, mind the fleet, and watch the bar.
The Columbia River bar
The bar where river meets ocean is famously the most dangerous on the West Coast: an ebb tide running out against Pacific swell builds massive breaking waves. Cross on the flood or at slack, check the bar report, and never push it. For the region, see our Pacific Northwest tide guide.
