Port San Luis Tide Chart
Port San Luis — Avila Beach’s working harbor on California’s Central Coast — runs the classic mixed semidiurnal tide, five feet of range that times the rockfish bite and the harbor launch.

The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around five feet of range. The mixed pattern makes one high clearly taller — and the minus tides of spring and summer open the rocky intertidal at nearby Shell Beach and the tide pools.
Rockfish and salmon
The harbor’s sport fleet works the reefs and kelp for rockfish, lingcod, and cabezon, with salmon seasons when the runs allow. Shore anglers fish Avila’s beaches for surfperch on the rising tide.
Boating
The harbor entrance is exposed to the south — watch the swell on a running ebb. Inside, it’s a snug small-craft harbor and the launch point for the Central Coast. For the region, see our Central & Northern California tide guide.
