The pattern
One high and one low daily with roughly a foot and a half of range. The pass runs current on the change; the bay’s shallow flats fish the tide’s rhythm more than its size.
Pass and surf fishing
The jetties and the pass hold redfish, flounder, and sheepshead, with tarpon rolling through in summer; the nearshore reefs give up snapper and grouper. The beach surf fishes pompano and whiting in the troughs on the rising tide.
Boating the bay
St. Andrews Bay is big, shallow water — mind the flats at low tide — with Shell Island and the pass as the Gulf gateways. For the wider Gulf, see our Gulf Coast tide guide.
