The pattern
One high and one low daily with about a foot and a half of range — the classic diurnal Gulf pattern. The pass runs current on the change, and the bay fishes its own rhythm behind it.
The charter fleet
The harbor’s charter fleet works the nearshore reefs and wrecks for red snapper, grouper, cobia, and amberjack — some of the Gulf’s fastest deep water is a short run out the pass. Inshore, the bay and its bayous hold trout and redfish; the surf gives up pompano.
Destin Pass
East Pass is one of Florida’s busiest inlets — the current rips on the tide change and boat traffic is heavy in season. Mind the jetties and the channel. For the wider Gulf, see our Gulf Coast tide guide.
