The pattern
One high tide and one low tide per day with around two feet of range — classic diurnal Gulf. The station sits at the Matagorda Bay entrance channel, so times here run a little ahead of the back-bay shorelines.
Redfish and whooping cranes
Matagorda Bay is redfish and speckled-trout water — the grass shorelines and oyster reefs fish best in the one daily moving-water window. In winter, endangered whooping cranes arrive on nearby Matagorda Island. See our best time to fish tides guide for timing the bite.
Boating
The bay is big, shallow, and wind-driven — the tide is only part of the water-level story here. Mind the marked channel through the entrance and the jetties. For the region, see our Texas tides guide.
