Grand Isle, Louisiana Tide Chart

Grand Isle — Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island — fishes a small diurnal Gulf tide, barely a foot or two, at the doorstep of some of the richest inshore and offshore water in America.

The pattern

One high and one low daily with one to two feet of range — the classic Louisiana diurnal pattern. What the tide lacks in size it makes up in consequence: the passes between the island and the marsh concentrate every baitfish the Gulf pushes in.

Trout, reds, and beyond

Speckled trout and redfish haunt the surf, the bay side, and the legendary Elmer’s Island nearby — the island’s Tarpon Rodeo is one of the Gulf’s oldest tournaments. Offshore, the passes lead to snapper, cobia, and pelagic water.

Boating

The passes run current on the tide change — the gateways to both the marsh and the Gulf. The island’s back side is shallow: mind the flats at low water. For the wider Gulf, see our Gulf Coast tide guide.
