The pattern
Small, often diurnal tides of around a foot and a half — some days bring just one high and one low. Redfish Bay and the surrounding flats feel the wind as much as the moon, so a hard southeast wind can stack water well above the prediction.
Shrimp fleet and Redfish Bay
Aransas Pass’s shrimp boats — the town’s working fleet — unload at the harbor, and Redfish Bay’s grass flats hold trout, redfish, and flounder year-round; see our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
The pass to the Gulf is deep ship-channel water — stay clear of the freighters and their wakes. The bay itself is shallow with soft, shifting bottom; the ferry to Port Aransas runs the channel. For the region, see our Texas tides guide.
