The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around twenty feet of range — huge Inside Passage water. The tide floods the Stikine’s braided mouth and the town’s harbor, then drains the flats far out — dock lines and skiffs need room for a twenty-foot swing.
Stikine and Anan bears
The Stikine River draws jet boats into a wilderness of glaciers and canyons, and Anan Creek’s bear observatory — a short floatplane or boat ride away — puts visitors beside black and brown bears fishing the salmon run; see our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
Wrangell Narrows and the Stikine mouth are current country — plan around the tide and mind the river’s shifting channels and snags. Fog and rain are the summer constants. For the region, see our Alaska tides guide.
