The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around fifteen feet of range — huge Inside Passage water. The tide rips through Wrangell Narrows and floods the tidal flats, and the minus lows of summer expose beaches the eagles work.
Little Norway
Norwegian fishermen founded Petersburg, and the fleet — seiners, gillnetters, crabbers — still defines the town. LeConte Glacier, North America’s southernmost tidewater glacier, calves within day-trip range; see our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
Wrangell Narrows — the 22-mile ‘Christmas tree’ channel south of town — demands slack water and the light list; the current runs hard. Outside is the full Inside Passage. For the region, see our Alaska tides guide.
