The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around ten feet of range — and the outer coast adds ocean swell to the tidal equation. The mixed pattern makes one daily high tower over the other.
Salmon and halibut
Sitka Sound’s kings are famous — the charter fleet works the points and kelp edges on the tide changes — with silvers, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish rounding out the box. Herring spawns draw everything in spring.
Boating
Outer-coast water with real exposure: check swell, wind, and tide together. The sound’s islands give sheltered options when the outside stands up. For the state, see our Alaska tide guide.
