Whittier Tide Chart

The pattern

Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around eleven feet of range — big Prince William Sound water. The tide floods Passage Canal and the fjords, and the currents run hard at the canal’s narrows on the change.

Tunnel town and glaciers

The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel — shared one lane each way with the railroad — is the only road in. Day cruises leave for the tidewater glaciers of Blackstone Bay and College Fjord, and kayakers work the calm mornings; see our best time to fish tides guide.

Boating

Prince William Sound is magnificent and unforgiving — glaciers calve, weather builds fast, and distances are long. Small boats file float plans and watch the tide change at the narrows. For the region, see our Alaska tides guide.
