Tacoma Tide Chart
Tacoma — Puget Sound’s working waterfront at the south end of the main basin — answers to a big mixed semidiurnal tide, around ten feet, that floods the tideflats and rips through the Narrows.

The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with a range around ten feet — classic Puget Sound. The tide turns Commencement Bay’s mudflats into a twice-daily vanishing act and drives serious current through the Tacoma Narrows.
Salmon and crab
Kings and silvers push through the Narrows and stage off the city on the tide. Dungeness crab pots soak the bay’s edges; the flats give up clams on the big minus tides.
Boating
The Tacoma Narrows demands respect — several knots of current at max ebb and flood, with standing waves in the wrong wind. Plan crossings at slack. For the region, see our Pacific Northwest tide guide.
