The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with only about two feet of range — classic Hawaii micro-tides. The swing is small, but the timing still decides when the reef flats are wadeable and when the channels run.

Reef and surf

Bonefish and trevally patrol the flats on the rising tide; the south-shore surf breaks work best on specific tide stages. Napali boat tours and inter-island crossings time their departures around the tide and swell together.

Boating

The Napali coast is exposed open-ocean boating — check swell and wind as well as the tide. Nawiliwili Harbor on the east side is the sheltered launch point. For the region, see our Hawaii tides guide.
