Kahului (Maui) Tide Chart

Kahului — Maui’s harbor town on the island’s north shore — sees a small mixed semidiurnal tide, barely two feet, in the shadow of Haleakalā and minutes from the North Shore’s legendary wind and waves.

The pattern

A mixed semidiurnal tide with a range that rarely reaches two feet — the two daily highs unevenly matched. On Maui’s north shore, the trade-wind swell and the famous Ho‘okipa surf matter far more to watermen than the tide — but the harbor entrance still runs current on the change.

Reef fishing

The reefs fronting Kahului and the north shore hold papio, ulua, and reef species that key on the modest moving water — dawn and dusk are the windows regardless of tide. Kanaha’s flats are the wind sport arena, not the fishing grounds.

Harbor and boating

Kahului Harbor is the island’s commercial port — small boats should mind the ship traffic and the breakwater entrance. The north shore’s exposure means checking the surf and wind forecasts alongside the tide table. For the island chain, see our Hawaii tide guide.
