Kailua-Kona Tide Chart
Kailua-Kona — the Big Island’s sunny leeward town — fishes a gentle mixed tide of around two feet, small water over some of the Pacific’s deepest blue, minutes from shore.

The pattern
A mixed semidiurnal tide with around two feet of range — barely a ripple by mainland standards. The tide still times the reef and the harbor; the Kona coast’s famous calm comes from the island’s rain shadow, not the tide.
Deep water
The Kona coast is blue marlin country — thousand-foot depths within sight of the harbor. Ahi, ono, and mahi fill the charter boxes; the reefs give up ulua and papio from shore.
Boating
Honokohau Harbor runs the charter fleet — mind the surge at the entrance on south swells. Manta ray night snorkels work the lit water off the airport. For the islands, see our Hawaii tide guide.
