The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around nine feet of range — big New Hampshire water. The tide floods Hampton Harbor and the marshes behind the barrier beach, then drains the flats fast on the ebb — the beach itself doubles in width at low water.

Boardwalk and beach

Hampton Beach State Park’s long sandy strand and the boardwalk’s arcades define summer here. Stripers cruise the surf and the harbor mouth on the moving tide; see our best time to fish tides guide.

Boating

Hampton Harbor’s entrance is narrow and current-swept — time it near slack and mind the bridge. Outside is open Atlantic with ledges off the headlands. For the region, see our New England tides guide.
