The pattern
One high tide and one low tide per day with around a foot and a half of range — classic diurnal Gulf. The whole day’s water movement happens in a single cycle, so the one tide change sets your fishing and boating window.
Fort Gaines and birds
Historic Fort Gaines guarded the Battle of Mobile Bay; today the island’s Audubon bird sanctuary makes it a migration hotspot. The beaches and bay give up speckled trout and redfish — time it with our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
The passes into Mobile Bay shoal, and the Dauphin Island Bridge spans the Mississippi Sound side — mind the marked channels and the ferry route. Summer squalls build fast. For the region, see our Gulf Coast tides guide.
