The pattern
Two highs and two lows daily with around a foot and a half of range — small Choptank River tides. Wind direction matters as much as the tide on this wide, shallow river.
Tubman country and fishing
Cambridge anchors Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad country — the Byway runs through marshes the tide floods twice daily. Anglers work the river for stripers, perch, and crabs; see our crabbing tide guide for the season.
Boating
The Choptank is one of the Bay’s great sailing rivers — broad, scenic, and shallow at the edges. Mind the channel markers and the summer chop. For the region, see our Chesapeake Bay tides guide.
