The pattern
Two highs and two lows daily with around a foot and a half of range — small mid-Bay tides. The Patuxent’s fresh water meets the Bay’s salt here, and the tide’s gentle push sets the river’s rhythm.
Marine museum and crabbing
The Calvert Marine Museum’s otters and skipjack are the town’s landmark; on the water it’s crabbing season — trotlines and pots in the creeks. Our crabbing tide guide covers running lines on the tide.
Boating
Solomons is a sailing town — marinas line both shores of the Patuxent mouth. The river is wide and forgiving, but summer thunderstorms build fast. For the region, see our Chesapeake Bay tides guide.
