The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around four feet of range — classic mid-Atlantic surf-zone water. The tide floods Banks Channel and drains the marsh behind the island, with the best surf often arriving on the pushing tide.

Surf and Masonboro

Wrightsville’s piers and the Crystal Pier are surf-town landmarks — locals plan sessions around the tide. Masonboro Island’s undeveloped shoreline, a short boat ride south, fishes for red drum and flounder; see our best time to fish tides guide.

Boating

Masonboro Inlet is the working pass here — cross near slack and mind the shoals. The Intracoastal Waterway runs behind the island with marked routes. For the region, see our Southeast Atlantic tides guide.
