The pattern
Two highs and two lows daily with around four feet of range — solid Eastern Shore water. The tide floods Wachapreague Channel and the back-bay marshes, then drains them hard on the ebb — that’s the moving water flounder bite.
Flounder capital
Charter boats out of Wachapreague chase flounder, black drum, and tautog around the barrier-island wrecks and the inlet shoals. Inshore, the marsh creeks give up specks and puppy drum on the rising tide — time it with our best time to fish tides guide.
Boating
The inlet and channels through the marsh shift — stick to the marked route and mind the ferry and charter traffic. The seaside of the barrier islands is open ocean; the bayside is shallow and shoaly. For the region, see our Mid-Atlantic tides guide.
