St. Augustine Tide Chart

America’s oldest city fronts a five-foot semidiurnal tide — the engine behind the St. Augustine Inlet bite, the Matanzas River’s oyster bars, and four centuries of harbor comings and goings.

The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around five feet of range on the oceanfront. The Tolomato and Matanzas rivers run slightly later than the beach — inshore anglers should check an inside station for creek timing.

Inshore fishing

Redfish tail the spartina on high water, trout and flounder work the creek mouths on the fall, and the inlet’s bridge pilings hold sheepshead and black drum. The oyster bars that fringe the rivers fish best with water moving over them.

Boating the inlet

St. Augustine Inlet shoals and shifts — favor the marked channel and mind the ebb, which stacks up against ocean swell. The Intracoastal behind the island is the sheltered route north and south. For the wider coast, see our Southeast Atlantic tide guide.
