The pattern
Two unequal highs and two unequal lows daily with around six feet of range — solid open-coast water. The tide works the cove and the rocky headlands, and the winter minus tides open the tide pools below the lighthouse.
Lighthouse and Stornetta
The Point Arena Lighthouse has guided ships since 1870, and the Stornetta Public Lands protect the headlands’ pygmy forests and sea cliffs. Salmon and rockfish seasons run the nearshore water; our best time to fish tides guide covers the bite windows.
Boating
Arena Cove is a working launch, not a sheltered harbor — the open coast here is serious water with fog, wind, and swell. Small boats pick calm windows and stay close. For the region, see our Central & Northern California tides guide.
