New Haven Tide Chart

New Haven sits on Long Island Sound’s Connecticut shore, where a roughly six-foot semidiurnal tide runs the oyster beds, the striper flats, and the harbor traffic.

The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with about six feet of range — a healthy middle of the Sound’s tidal range, bigger than the eastern Sound and smaller than the western end near New York. The tide floods west-to-east and ebbs back on the reverse.

Oysters and stripers

Connecticut’s oyster industry works these waters — farmed oysters fatten on the tide’s twice-daily buffet. For anglers, striped bass and bluefish prowl the reefs and river mouths (Quinnipiac, Mill) on moving water, with false albacore blitzing in the fall. Check shellfish regulations before harvesting.

Boating the Sound

New Haven Harbor’s channels and breakwaters are the gateway to the central Sound — mind the shallows outside the dredged cuts at low water. The Thimble Islands just east are the classic day-cruise. For the region, see our New England tide guide.
