The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around four feet of range — moderate New England water. The tide pushes up the Acushnet River and drains the harbor flats, and the hurricane barrier gates close on storm surge.

Stripers and tautog

Striped bass blitz the bay on moving water; tautog stack on the rocky structure in fall. The working waterfront means fresh intel — the commercial fleet watches the same tide you do.

Boating

The hurricane barrier is the gate to the bay — plan around its schedule and the tide. Buzzards Bay can stand up rough in a southwest wind against the ebb. For the region, see our New England tides guide.
