Gloucester Tide Chart

Gloucester — America’s oldest fishing port — works a nine-foot semidiurnal tide at the doorstep of Stellwagen Bank, where the tide’s bait conveyor feeds stripers, tuna, and whales.

The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around nine feet of range — big water that moves hard through the harbor’s narrow entrance and the Annisquam River. The tide’s reach shapes everything from the marsh creeks to the bank.

A fishing port

The charter and commercial fleets work Stellwagen for stripers, haddock, and bluefin tuna in season; the harbor’s breakwaters and the Dogbar give shore anglers structure on moving water. Lobster boats work the ledges year-round.

Boating

The harbor entrance and the Annisquam’s currents demand tide timing — the river rips on the exchange. Outside is open Atlantic: check the marine forecast with the table. For the region, see our New England tide guide.
