The pattern
Two highs and two lows daily with only around two feet of range — gentle Vineyard water. With so little swing, the current through the harbor entrance and around Chappaquiddick matters more than the height — plan crossings and beach walks around the change.
Vineyard harbor town
The Chappaquiddick ferry has run from Edgartown’s dock for generations, and Katama’s South Beach faces the open Atlantic. Stripers cruise the harbor mouth and Wasque’s rips; our best time to fish tides guide covers the island timing.
Boating
Edgartown Harbor is snug and busy — moorings fill fast in summer and the channel to Nantucket Sound carries real current. Mind the shoals off Chappaquiddick. For the region, see our New England tides guide.
