The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around nine feet of range — big Georgia-coast water. The tide floods the Turtle River and the marsh creeks behind the barrier islands, then drains the shrimp-boat docks and mudflats — the swing is among the largest on the Atlantic seaboard.

Shrimp fleet and the Isles

Brunswick’s shrimp boats — the town’s working identity — unload at the downtown docks, and the Golden Isles’ beaches, golf, and the Jekyll Island causeway draw visitors year-round; see our best time to fish tides guide for the marsh windows.

Boating

The port’s ship channel is big-ship water — stay clear of the freighters and their wakes. The marsh creeks are shallow and current-swept; favor a rising tide and the marked cuts. For the region, see our Southeast Atlantic tides guide.
