The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around eleven feet of range — big midcoast water. The tide floods Belfast Harbor and the Passagassawakeag’s lower reaches, then exposes broad flats on the ebb — the working docks ride the full swing.

Harbor town on the bay

The Harbor Walk traces the waterfront past the Front Street shipyards, where wooden vessels have been built for generations. Moose Point State Park, just south of town, overlooks the bay’s islands; see our best time to fish tides guide for the midcoast windows.

Boating

Belfast Harbor’s dredged channel is the deep water — the surrounding bay is shoal and ledge country outside the marks. Summer fog can close in fast. For the region, see our New England tides guide.
