Bath Tide Chart

Bath — the ‘City of Ships’ on the Kennebec River, home of Bath Iron Works and the Maine Maritime Museum — works a semidiurnal tide of around nine feet. Note the NOAA station sits at Hunniwell Point near the river’s mouth, about ten miles south of the city, so upriver times run later.

The pattern

Two highs and two lows daily with around nine feet of range — strong river-mouth water. The tide pushes up the Kennebec past the shipyard and drains the estuary’s flats, and the current runs hardest mid-ebb and mid-flood.

Shipbuilding town

Bath Iron Works has launched warships from the Kennebec for generations, and the Maine Maritime Museum’s riverfront campus — with its surviving wooden shipyard — tells four centuries of the story. Stripers run the river in spring; see our best time to fish tides guide.

Boating

The Kennebec’s current is the boss — plan river transits around slack and mind the shoals at Doubling Point. Popham Beach and the river mouth are open-coast water on the ebb. For the region, see our New England tides guide.
